My partner Nigel and I have long wondered what exists
opposite us, through the centre of the earth. Using an APP we identified a flat green space north-west of Madrid, Spain.
In 2024 we decided to go and find it and in preparation I made an antipodes stone to leave there. The stone and the paua shell came from our local beach. I set up a file and asked a nearby laser company to engrave it on both sides – the hole links the two sites, one here in Aotearoa NZ and the other in Spain. I made cord from a Ti Kouka tree growing in our garden.
On a fine day in March 2024, we biked to the near-by town and then out to the site (GPS is a wonderful thing) and to our surprise, the owner was there with his tractor, planting potatoes! After a google translated conversation we gave him the antipodes stone and went on our way.
